Neville’s Mental Scene Rehearsal

Neville Goddard’s mental scene rehearsal is a core practice of his "Law of Assumption." It involves constructing a short, vivid imaginal act that implies your desire has already been fulfilled and repeating it until it feels like a present reality

STEP 1 - State Akin to Sleep (SATS): Relax into a drowsy, meditative state, typically just before falling asleep at night or upon waking in the morning. This state makes the subconscious mind most receptive to new impressions.

STEP 2 - Construct a Short Scene: Choose a single, brief event that would necessarily follow the fulfillment of your wish.

  • Example: If you want a new job, do not imagine the interview. Instead, imagine a friend shaking your hand and saying, "Congratulations on the new position!".

STEP 3 - First-Person Perspective: Experience the scene from within your own body. You must see your hands, hear through your own ears, and feel the environment as if you are physically there—do not watch yourself like a character in a movie.

STEP 4 - Engage the Senses: Make the scene "vivid" by adding sensory details. Mentally touch objects (like the cold condensation on a glass or the fabric of a chair), smell the air, or hear distinct voices.

STEP 5 - Loop the Scene: Repeat the short scene over and over in your mind. The goal is not just to see it, but to capture the feeling of relief or satisfaction that comes with the "wish fulfilled".

STEP 6 - Fall Asleep in the Feeling: Continue the rehearsal until you drift off to sleep while still immersed in the feeling that the event has already happened.
